The process begins with a consultation or information visit. Dr. Ronan’s consultations tend to be lengthy. After he elicits the goals and desires of the patient and conducts a focused history and exam, Dr. Ronan reviews the options available. Risks of the particular procedure are discussed in great detail. Realistic expectations are discussed and before/after photos of actual patients are reviewed. All of your questions are answered. At the conclusion of the visit, you will review a quotation with the patient coordinator. The goal of the consultation is to provide the patient with more than enough information to make a good decision about the procedure(s).

Prior to surgery, a pre-operative, or ‘nuts and bolts,’ appointment is made. During this visit, the procedure is again reviewed and questions are answered. We will review your medical history and complete a more thorough physical exam. Appropriate lab tests and/or an EKG may be performed. Necessary paperwork is completed and photo documentation is completed. Pre- and post-operative instructions are reviewed, etc.

The process doesn’t end with surgery. Patients are carefully followed in the post-operative period. After recovery, patients can return for a lifetime of follow-up.

Breast augmentation uses implants to help women achieve their desired breast size and shape. The reasons for breast augmentation vary from cosmetic purposes to breast reconstruction following a mastectomy. No matter what the purpose, breast augmentation involves the same basic principals, although there are a number of implants and surgical techniques.

Breast augmentations almost exclusively use saline-filled implants because of their safety and natural look. (Silicone implant breast augmentations gained national attention when reports of leaking implants were linked to negative side effects. Breast augmentations using silicone have long since been considered safe for use in the United States, and most breast augmentations use implants that are encased in a silicone shell.) Recent developments in breast augmentation use a variety of materials, but saline and silicone remain the most commonly used fillers.

Breast lifts create firmer, younger-looking breasts, tightening the skin and lifting the areola and nipple. Candidates for breast lift surgery have lost skin elasticity due to weight loss, pregnancy, or breast-feeding, or simply time. Breast lift surgery can change the breast shape, altering nipple position and breast contour, or a breast lift can be performed with the intent of preserving the original shape of the breast.
